The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 builds on the huge success of the original Raspberry Pi Pico 1. The Pico 2 features a new Raspberry Pi chip, namely the RP235x. Compared to its predecessor (the RP2040), the RP235x has the following advantages:

• A 150MHz system clock (versus 133MHz)
• Dual Arm Cortex-M33 cores (versus dual Arm Cortex-M0+)
• Dual RISC-V Hazard3 cores
• 520KB RAM (versus 264KB)
• 8KB on-chip OTP storage
• A comprehensive security model, based on Arm TrustZone for Cortex-M
• Greatly improved power efficiency

The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 comes with the RP2350 with 4MB onboard QSPI Flash memory (versus 2MB on the Raspberry Pi Pico) for code and data storage.

And all of this in the small size of 21mm x 51.3mm x 3.9mm and weighing only 3 grams. Programmable in C++ or MicroPython.

What is a controller?

The Raspberry Pi Pico is not a successor to the Raspberry Pi v4. The Raspberry Pis as we previously know them are processors. Powerful chips capable of running a complete operating system and performing multiple tasks simultaneously. However, the Raspberry Pi Pico is a controller. A much simpler chip capable of performing (in principle) one task. Therefore, it does not run an operating system; you have to program everything yourself. This is ideal for performing simple tasks, such as reading the temperature and changing a light to red or blue based on it. Or delegated tasks, such as reading a command from the USB port and then making a row of lights blink in your chosen pattern... Or sounding an alarm when someone walks through a motion sensor. The Pico is already perfectly suitable for this!
